This is one of the most common questions that we received from our clients. In what situation is ideal for your business and companies to start doing Google Ads?

In our previous article, we’ve mentioned that most internet users use Google Chrome for their search engine. Based on this data from Statista [1], in 2022, 97.22% of Malaysians will use Google as their default search engine. Because of this, as a business owner, we would also want our website to be optimised for Google.

Before we start talking about what kind of business is suitable to use Google Ads, we will talk about what kind of marketing campaign is possible for Google Ads.

Types of Google Ads Campaign Objective.

Based on the image above, there are ‘Sales’ campaigns to drive sales online, in app, by phone, or in store. There is also a ‘Get Leads’ campaign to get leads and other conversions by encouraging customers to take action. However, the most common among businesses is the ‘Website traffic’ campaign. For today we will be covering what is a ‘Website traffic’ campaign and when to use this for your business.

As the name suggests, ‘Website traffic’ campaign is to increase traffic to your website. Before you start doing this campaign, you need to have your own website obviously. After selecting a campaign objective you need to select the type of campaign you want.

Pay Only for Customers Interested in your Business.

Search is the most common campaign type. When you search something in your Google search engine, the result that comes out is the result of the Search campaign. Everytime someone clicks on your website, you need to pay Google for each click. This is how this type of campaign works. If the user did not click on your website, it doesn’t count and you don’t need to pay Google anything. Because of this, it is very cost effective to use Google ads as one of your marketing tools. Compared to a traditional billboard marketing campaign for example, you still need to pay the company every month even though no one looks at your billboard or even no one walks near your billboard. No matter how many people ignore your billboard ads, you still need to pay the same amount of money.

Niche Business

Another situation to use Google ads is when your business is hard to find. For example, someone who is looking for a company that sells a specific type of machine, for example a machine to process palm oil. The end user doesn’t know where or how to find the company that sells the machine. Even if he asks 100 friends of his, no one can provide an answer. Only Google is able to find the answer. This type of business is very suitable to use Google Ads. Not only niche products, niche services are also suitable for Google ads.

Testing Market

Google Ads is a perfect tool to test a market. For example, you do durian business, every year you have extra unsold durian so you want to turn the extra durian into a different product. You want to turn it into durian ice cream, durian cake, durian pudding, durian pie, durian laksa,  whatever you can possibly think of, Google Ads is the best tool to test this market. Google has the most amount of data in the world. You can look at the keywords and see how many people Google and look for that keyword. You can also look at the trend of the keyword. You can even do ads for your durian laksa and see the response from people without even starting your new product. This market test and research is very useful to provide you with enough information before you fully commit and invest into your new ideas.

Business that Requires a Lot of Researching before Deciding to Proceed with the Service

Another situation when Google Ads is the best type of advertising is when your business is complicated and hard for people to understand. For example, your business is related to skin whitening, or even body slimming services, fat burning etc. This type of business is very hard for people to trust or believe. Business that at a glance makes people think “is this legit? Does this work?”. This business takes time to convince your customer. They need to look at your website, your credibility, testimony, before and after result etc to increase their confidence, then only they can commit to book an appointment. This type of business is very suitable for Google Ads as the users will be using Google to jump from one website to another, jumping into your website and your competitors website until they make their decision. If this is the type of business you are doing, this is a must because if you don’t do this, your competitors will.

When You Just Started Your Business

Google Ads are very suitable for new businesses. When you just started out, nobody knows your brand. You have no reputation yet. Getting Google to promote your business into the front page of Google is a good way to start your business and get your 1st customer. How much money do you need to spend for for Google ads for the Malaysian market? Well, this is a topic we will cover in our future article.
